Sunny day
South Tyneside is more than your traditional seaside experience, offering old and young alike the chance to make some memorable memories, but don't just take our word for it - come and see for yourself.
To help you out we've put together an itinerary for the whole family.
Keep the whole family entertained on a sunny day with these fun activities.
Morning
A trip to Arbeia Roman Fort is fantastic for families to walk where the Roman's walked, explore real digs, see what a real garrison looks like and train as a Roman Soldier or watch a re-enactment of Roman training with horses and spears!
Take a five minute walk to South Marine Park where children can take a ride on a real steam train, play in one of our two parks with giant sand pit, swings and slides. Don't forget to grab a bite out of our famous waterfront favourite Minchella's ice-cream.
If you dare, take a pedalo out on the pond and have a ride around the miniature lake feeding ducks on the way.
If it's during the summer months then our Sports Development team will be there on the main lawn with free sporting activities and competitions for the family.
Afternoon
If your family is on a budget then cross the road to Sandhaven Beach where you can build sandcastles, take a dip in our sea and play beach games, before walking to the Littlehaven Beach to go looking for rock pools and crabs.
If you want the thrills of the fair then pop to Ocean Beach Pleasure Park and ride the rollercoaster, dodgems and water rides or simply hook a duck and throw a dart to win a goldfish!
For tea a range of family pubs, take-aways and cafes sit along the seafront to finish that perfect day out.

Rainy day
Don't despair for rainy days, we have an itinerary to help!
Morning
A trip to South Shields Museum is a great start to the day where kids can explore rocks, history from past wars and creature corner.
The Museum has a host of free activities for children such as treasure hunts, bee-hive making or fun arts and crafts, while the parents can have a quick coffee in the Victorian pantry.
Make the five minute trip to The Dunes for their massive indoor adventure soft play area themed around a pirate's galleon, or have a game or two of ten-pin bowling and fun in the amuseuments.
Afternoon
Take a splash at Haven Point, our leisure facility at the heart of our seafront and enjoy the slides, bubble sprays and bubble pools. Refine your swimming in our learning pool for children or adult pool for the slightly older audience.
Finish the day at our award winning Colmans Fish and Chips.
