South Marine Park
South Marine Park is the crown jewel at the heart of South Shields seafront and is a must to visit!
It's been hugely popular for many years, and it's not hard to see why. Wave to the passengers on the miniature steam train as it circles the park, hire a pedalo on the boating lake or watch the kids have lots of fun playing on the two great soft play areas.
There is loads of green space to play football and games, along with lovely trails throughout the park where you can enjoy a pleasant stroll with gorgeous seaside views.
There's plenty of grassy areas, picnic tables and seating to enjoy a picnic, and a lovely cafe in the park too - a great place to enjoy a bite to eat, coffee or ice-cream and watch the world go by.
The Friends of North and South Marine Park organise regular events throughout the year, many of which take place in the beautiful restored Victorian bandstand.
The Friends of North and South Marine Park
The Friends of the North and South Marine Parks were formed in 2007 as part of the Heritage Lottery Funded restoration of the South Marine Park. They are a very active group of volunteers who work closely with the Council and partners to protect and develop our seafront parks. They organise a number of events, from litter picks to petanque, walks to live music.
