Surfing

With long stretches of sandy beaches, South Shields is a superb location for windsurfing and surfing.

Looking to learn how to surf or have a go at stand up paddleboarding? South Shields Surf School offers lessons for adults and children on South Shields' Sandhaven Beach. The surf school also provide adaptive surf sessions for people with additional needs and disabilities.

Sailing

South Tyneside also offers a variety of sailing conditions, whether they are in the calmer waters of the Tyne Harbour or along the beautiful scenic coastline.

Canoeing

Canoeing is also a popular pastime in the borough with many sheltered coves nestled into the cliffs to explore.

Water Activity Centre

South Tyneside's Water Activities Centre is based on the seafront next to the Littlehaven Beach.

They can deliver a range of exciting water activities for groups including:

  • sailing
  • open canoeing
  • kayaking
  • paddle-surfing
  • windsurfing
  • jet-skiing

A range of qualification courses are also provided through the centre. All staff are fully trained, qualified and teach water safety skills as part of any activity.
