A significant number of pupils nowadays will suffer a serious loss and prepared staff are more effective at coping with this.  It can be helpful for them to explore their own responses to loss to prepare them to support their pupils.

This session will include:

• an exploration of how bereavement can affect pupils from the very young through to adolescents
• how pupils might express their grief and how it can affect their behaviour and their ability to learn and cope with relationships and school
• what staff can do and how pupils can be supported
• techniques to engage pupils who have suffered bereavement
• possible implications of bereavement in children
• further support and resources available regarding bereavement and loss

Expected Impact on School/Setting:

• This session will equip staff with strategies to help them interact in a positive way with pupils who are grieving or experiencing loss and help them to offer coping strategies
