The Word, National Centre for the Written Word is South Tyneside Council's state-of-the-art cultural venue.
The building has lots of great things to enjoy, for all ages.
At its core, The Word celebrates the written word in all its forms through a rolling programme of events, exhibitions and workshops.
The building is also home to 70,000 books, and the area's Visitor Information Centre which is a great place to learn more about what there is to see and do in the area and pick up a lovely gift in their shop.
The Word is located within the heart of South Shields Town Centre, next to the Market Place, Shields Ferry and The Customs House. It's just a couple of minutes walk from South Shields Bus / Metro Station.
